Other Comments:

My first trip to this relatively new restaurant. I heard good things and I had high expectations. A tasty burger with a kick thanks to the jalapeno aioli and banana peppers but it was overpriced and I left unsatisfied as I probably could of eaten another one.  I have to deduct points for price. If you are going to charge $17.00 it better be extra special or at least include the side..  That's my "beef".
The pizzas looked tasty here too, I will be back to check them out.

Sweet and Slawpy

Name of Burger: Sweet and Slawpy

Establishment:

Size:  8oz. Island Beef

Toppings:
Cheddar Blend
Candied Bacon
Horseradish Dijon Slaw
Arugula
Jalapeno Aioli
Roll toasted with Garlic Butter
Garnished with a Grape Tomato and Pepperoncini Pepper

Price$13.00

Rating:   10 out of 10

Other Comments:

Horsradish scares me and cabbage slaw isn't a favorite of mine but despite that this burger blew me away.  The bun is worth the price of admission you could say.  The beef is nicely seasoned and the slaw is such an incredible compliment to it all. I don't even recall the candied bacon, I don't know if that's because there wasn't much on it or that the rest of the flavors were enough on their own.
Give me more. This is a contender for PEIBurgerLove crown.

Fireball

Name of Burger: Fireball

Establishment:
Prince Edward Restaurant

Size:  7oz. Island Beef

Toppings:
Homemade Spicy Pesto Sauce
Fire Roasted Sweet Peppers
Bacon Strips
Cheddar Cheese
Jalapeno Poppers
Poppy Seed Bun

Price$11.00

Rating:   4 out of 10

Other Comments:

Others have described this as "Their favorite so far"  I have to disagree and then some.
The peppers were slimy and fell off the burger. The jalapeno popper would of made a good garnish but is not a good topping and I didn't like the bun at all. The burger fell apart to the point I had the finish it with knife and fork, that loses points for me. The only good parts were the PEI beef and the bacon.  Lesson learned: Never listed to your co-workers. ;-)   Come to think of it, there is really no need to listed to me either, get as many burgers as you can and decide for yourself.

Smitty's

Size:  8oz. Seasoned Island Beef infused with Smoked Provolone Cheese and Banana Peppers,

Toppings:

Chipotle Mango BBQ Sauce
Jalapeno Monterey Jack Cheese
Smoked Bacon

Dill Pickle Slices
Red Onion
Potato Scallion Bun
Garnished with a Spicy Bean and Mango Slice

Price: $12.50

Rating:   9.5 out of 10

Other Comments:

Yum.  Surprisingly this was awesome. Smitty's isn't exactly known for their burgers but they got this one right. The burger was seasoned and cooked perfect, the chipotle mango bbq sauce was out of this world and the potato scallion bun kept it together nicely. I can't say a bad thing about this burger. I put the rating at 9.5 as I always do with my first really good PEIBurgerLove because you just never know if there is a better one just around the corner.

Size:  6oz. Island Beef Patty with Cajun Seasoning

Toppings:
Braised Beef with Brakish Moonshine BBQ Sauce
Red Chili Pepper Cheese
Sweet & Spicy Housemade Corn Relish

Smokey BBQ Mayo
Romaine Lettuce
Fresh Tomato
Garlic Buttered Brioche Bun
Topped with a Jalapeno Popper and Brakish BBQ Chicken Wing

Price: $14.99

Rating:   8 out of 10

Other Comments:

I heard good things about this one so I went in expecting a lot. Although it didn't quite meet my expectations it was pretty good.  Loved the Jalapeno Popper to start with. The toppings were good but the braised beef didn't stick out as much as I had hoped and the brioche bun fell a bit short.
The combination of sauce, corn relish and onion string plate drippings were quickly scooped up by fork and were delicious.  On to my next burger adventure.

Firecracker

Name of Burger: Firecracker

Establishment:

Size:  Two 3.5oz. Island Beef patties

Toppings:
Caramelized Onions
Banana Peppers
Sriracha Mayo
Smoked Bacon
COWS Creamery Extra Old Cheddar™, Sriracha Sauce
Tomatoes
Mayo
Bun Grilled with COWS Creamery Butter™

Price: $8.99

Rating:   7.5 out of 10

Other Comments:
Do you rate a burger lower because it falls apart or higher because you need more napkins? That is the dilemma. This burger was quite tasty with Sriracha spicy sauce which to me tastes a bit like Buffalo sauce. It's got a bit of a kick. Keeping this together long enough to eat it without a fork is a challenge though. I'd recommend it and the bonus is it comes with a regular price which is much better than the other PEIBurgerLove creations.

Italian Cowboy

Name of Burger: Italian Cowboy

Establishment:

Size:  6oz. Island Beef Stuffed with Mozzarella Cheese

Toppings:

Chipotle Mayo
Roasted Peppers
Fresh Tomato
Garlic Fried Onions
Blue Cheese Drizzle
Garlic Fingers Bun
Topped with Deep Fried Dry Cured Pepperoni

Price: $12.00

Rating:   5
out of 10

Other Comments:
A bit of Jeckell and Hyde. The flavours of the burger and toppings are very good. What throws me off is the garlic finger bun. I found the only thing it adds to the burger is grease an blandness. A  soft Italian roll may of been a better choice.

Caribbean Heat

Name of Burger: Caribbean Heat

Establishment:

Size:  8oz. Seasoned Island Beef patty,

Toppings

Spicy Sauce,
Fire Roasted Red Pepper
Mozzarella
Smokey Bacon
Romaine Lettuce
Fresh Tomato
Sweet & Spicy Mango Sauce
Grilled Rustic Bun
Garnished with Mango Slices, Cherry Tomato & Green Olive

Price: $14.99

Rating:   7.5 out of 10

Other Comments:
I'm a fan of Caribbean spice, if you are too give this one a try. It's pretty spicy but not overpowering and not a bad after taste like you might expect. I loved the roasted pepper and the mango slices are a nice touch to add a balance to the heat of the spices. The downfall on this one is not enough bacon and a little higher cost than it should be IMO.

So if May showers bring May flowers, what does April bring??  For me a whole lot of burger joy and cholesterol, that's what.  Big Burger in the Charlottetown Mall is somewhat of a hidden gem. Their regular menu always has tasty burgers, fries with the works and sandwiches so I'm not surprised they came up with a tasty treat for PEIBurgerLove month.  The smokiness of the ham and bacon are paired nicely with the BBQ chili sauce.  This thing was the size of a frisbee and a meal on it's own.  The potato garnish was a bit of a let down but kudos to them for doing something new.
I'll gladly recommend this to all you burger lovers.  Enjoy April, I know I will.
